Technology Spreads

March 12, 2010

Read two interesting articles this week on how technology is reaching all the corners of the earth. According this first article, published last month, African churches are now using technology to help growth their church congregations. Churches use cell phones to advertise meeting times, discuss religious matters on social networks, link churches to overseas pastors, collect an offering, and connect new visitors to church.

Another country that is utilizing technology is India. They have ambitious plans to provide broadband Internet access to all its 630,000 villages by May 2012. It doesn’t matter how remote the village might be. There are also plans to bring satellite telephones to villages. While this might not seem like such a big deal, please keep in mind that about two thirds of India’s population live in villages. This project will bring information and connection to all Indians rather than just the upper class.
