Feast

July 27, 2009

I was recently talking to a friend who was getting married. She was describing to me the problem she had with guests inviting several people to her reception that she had not planned to invite. It wasn’t that she didn’t want them there, but she was having a hard time fitting all these extra people into her budget. This reminded me of the parable of the great banquet in Luke14:15-24. Here we see a man who was not worried about budget, he just desired people to join him for his feast. He wanted his house to be filled. The people he was inviting, however, didn’t want to come, and they certainly weren’t inviting other people to join the banquet. This man was not worried about his budget. The price had been paid. What if those who received the invitation not only responded but also extended the invitation to others? What if people responded to their faith in God as eagerly as they do to a wedding invitation? Some do. Isn’t that what evangelism is all about?
